Boys' Golf: RF, Hudson advance to sectional
Hudson freshman Bennett Swavely earned medalist honors and River Falls had three players in the top ten as the Wildcats finished second and the Raiders placed third at the 8-team WIAA Division 1 Boys' Golf Regional at Troy Burne Tuesday, May 22.
Swavely led all players with a three over-par 74 and junior Charley Chase tied for seventh with a 79 to lead Hudson to a team score of 323, three strokes behind River Falls. Eau Claire Memorial captured the team title with 314. Chippewa Falls grabbed the fourth and final sectional qualifying spot with 346.
River Falls' junior Taylor Thompson and senior Jaxon Knotek were two of four players to tie for third place with rounds of 78 while freshman Maxamillian Xiong placed tenth with an 81. Senior Max Morrow and junior Taylor Rotsaert tied for 13th place with identical scores of 83.
Hudson freshman Ben Pendleton finished just out of the top ten by tying for 11th place with 82. Senior Logan Funk rounded out the Raider's team score with 88 while junior Wes Pendleton shot 92.
Eau Claire Memorial, River Falls, Hudson and Chippewa Falls will be joined by the top four teams from the Merrill Regional-- Stevens Point, Wausau West, D.C. Everest and Marshfield-- at the Division 1 sectional Tuesday, May 29, at the Stevens Point Country Club. Stevens Point won the Merrill regional with a score of 328 at Merrill Golf Course.
The top two teams, and the top three individuals who are not members of a qualifying team, will participate in the WIAA Boys' State Golf Championships June 4-5 at University Ridge in Madison.
