Falcon Roundup: Sorenson, Tolkkinen qualify for nationals

Colton Sorensen

UW-River Falls senior Colton Sorensen and junior Linsey Tolkkinen have qualified to compete in the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships this weekend, May 24-26, at UW-La Crosse.

Sorensen, a recently graduated senior from Balsam Lake, will be competing in the men's pole vault on Saturday, May 26. This will be his first time competing in the NCAA Division III outdoor championship after making two appearances at the indoor championships. Ranked 18th in the nation, Sorensen qualified with a height of 16-feet, just short of his school-record height of 16-feet, 1.7-inches.

Tolkkinen, a Delano, Minn., native, will be making her first national championship appearance in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday, May 24. Tolkkinen ran her qualifying time of 36 minutes, 24.82 seconds, a 30-second improvement over her previous best time, at the La Crosse Qualifier May 17. The time currently places her third on the all-time UWRF list and ranks her 22nd in the nation.
